The race to sign PSV Eindhoven star Donyell Kallen has continued to heat up as Arsenal have now reportedly included themselves in the race to acquire the player’s signature. Dortmund were first said to be keen to sign the 22-year-old as a direct replacement for Jadon Sancho, who has already agreed to join English Premier League giants Manchester United this summer for a fee reported to be around £73 million. However, Dortmund will have to act very fast in the transfer window if they want to secure the services of the Netherlands international youngster so as beat off interest from the Gunners.

Mallen was a bright star for PSV last season and it is only normal for him to be linked with a move away from the Dutch Eredivisie club. His fine performances last season also earned him a call-up to the Netherlands national team and he also had a part in the Dutch team’s run in the 2020 UEFA Euros tournament. However, he may not be lining up for PSV next season, especially if more clubs join the queue to sign him this summer.

Arsenal want to sign the attacker as they wish to continue their squad revamp and also to continue their new policy of recruiting young players in the squad. As for Dortmund, signing Mallen could just be yet another story if them signing a young player for a relatively low fee who will eventually evolve into a top star in the near future and would also command a larger fee.

We have seen players like Christian Pulisic, Oismane Dembele, Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland, and other young talents who were signed for a little amount of money but would eventually be developed into world-class attacking talents. The same could happen with Mallen if he joins Dortmund this summer.
