Arsenal can profit from the financial struggle that AS Roma is currently facing this summer as many of the Italians have been reported to pull themselves out or move because of Chris Smalling. The footballer has been playing for the Capital side of Italy on loan for the entire season after he fell out of favor at Old Trafford. He has been able to revive his career at a side for Serie A football before returning to his past form and that has made the Italians prioritize his signature permanently.

However, the Manchester United club has already told them that for landing their man they would have to pay £25 million but this sum seems excessive for the Italian side. Reports have also come out claiming that the doubtful realities of the post-pandemic world are another reason that has forced the Italian side to abandon their hunt for getting the defender. And this has opened the door for his move to Arsenal. According to a source, Chris Smalling had earlier said that he would like to stay and it is a deal that suits all the parties at the end of the ongoing season.

The reality regarding finance is much different.  All the people at AS Roma have a lot of other new things to consider in this condition. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had to make the decision quickly to send Chris Smalling out on loan last summer because the move for Marcos Rojo to Everton collapsed at a later stage. It was not a surprise for the manager to see how well the defender had performed at AS Roma and he will always remain a fan of Chris. Arsenal made Chris their top target and now it has to be seen how much effect the pandemic has on the summer business of Arsenal football club.
